Two-Man Mission: Queens to Montauk (Bike)

Last week Peter Schaefer and Nick Egbert threw down 123 miles in the saddle from Queens to Montauk Point Lighthouse on an overnighter. This is the first Point to Point bike of the 2024 season and was completed with nothing but backpacks on the back and a clean heading EAST.

Start Point: Queens (Hampton Jitney Drop off)

End Point: Montauk Point Lighthouse

Distance: 122.78 miles (2 days)

Day 1: 72.25 miles in 5 hours and 27 minutes

Day 2: 50.53 miles in 3 hours and 30 minutes

Levels of Support: Unsupported

Trip Report: “Took the Jitney at 5:45 A.M. from Sag Harbor to Queens. Got a quick bite to eat and then hit the road coasting for 37 miles before we stopped for lunch in Central Islip. The roads were the heaviest closest to Queens, so the trip mellowed out as we progressed. We went 35 miles after lunch to stay in Westhampton with my aunt and uncle. In the morning we got up and rode 2 miles to the deli, then continued for 38 miles until we stopped 10 miles from the point to refuel. It was an all out effort from there.” - Peter Schaefer

Additional Route Notes: “We followed route 24 through Hempstead and then when we got further east we stayed between the LIE and the Sunrise. Made our way back on the side roads. From Westhampton to the point we took Montauk Highway the whole way. First day we stayed in the middle of the island second day we brought it down to the south shore.” - Peter Schaefer
