Channing Challenge: SWIM
On September 15th, 2024 a group of swimmers set out to resurrect a swim tradition from over 2 decades ago. Spearheaded by the Channing Family, the Channing’s a small group of friends and the Dawgpatch Crew swam from Cartwright Island to Devon Yacht Club Pier to bring back an end of season swim and annual family tradition.
Start Point: Cartwright Island
End Point: Devon Yacht Club Pier
Distance: 2.2 miles
Levels of Support: 2 guide boats. 1 prone paddler support. Mixed group of swimmers with a variety of ability levels.
Trip Report: Heavy winds out of the Northeast. Solid chop in the water. This swim almost got called off. But in true Dawgpatch fashion, we got it done. 2 support boats transported swimmers from the pier out to Cartwright Island to start the swim. Swimmers quickly split into a front, middle and trail group. Challenging conditions caused a couple swimmers to tag out during the swim. 6 out of 8 swimmers completed the 2.2 miles.
