Noyac Bay Annual: Swim

On the Tuesday after Labor Day, 8 swimmers took on this year’s Noyac Bay Swim to close out the 2024 Tuesday Morning Swim Season. In proper Dawgpatch form, the team of 8 made the 3.3 mile crossing from Jessups Neck to Long Beach in some brisk and windy fall like conditions.

Start Point: Jessups Neck (North End)

End Point: Long Beach (North End)

Distance: 3.3 miles

Swimmers: Ewen Cameron, Lucas Cameron, Jeremy Grosvenor, Spencer Schneider, Nico McMahon, Mike Mata, John Shaka and Drew Harvey.

Levels of Support: 2 guide boats - each with captain and crew member, to spot and keep swimmers on charted line. Lead Boat - Captained by Dave Harvey, crewed by Dawn Harvey. Trail Boat “Point to Point” - Captained by Jennifer Harvey, crewed by LG Chuck Partellow.

Date of Completion: 09/03/2024

Trip Report: 4th annual Noyac Bay swim. North winds were blowing at a steady 8 to 10kts. Decent chop was in the water. Guide boats picked up swimmers at 7:15 AM from Long Beach and transported them to Jessups Neck to start the swim at 7:45 AM. Tide was low to incoming in Noyac Bay. Swimmers separated into two main groups, a lead group and a trail group right off the bat. Swimmers headed out across the bay at a diagonal towards Long Beach at a Southeasterly direction staying slightly ‘high’ to account for winds that would push the swimmers to the south. In the lead group, swimmers stayed close and kept the pace high. Trail group swimmers were more spread out making more work for the trail boat to check in with each swimmer individually. Swim was into a rising sun causing a glare that was difficult to site through. Swimmers had to triangulate position and rely on guide boats to stay on course. All swimmers completed the swim in under 2.5 hours.

Additional Details: This swim marked the end of the Tuesday morning swim season that Dawgpatch Bandits hosts each year at Long Beach in Sag Harbor, NY.
