Alton Bay to Meredith, NH: Sea Kayak

Long time Dawgpatch paddler, Jake Haugevik, connects Alton Bay and Meredith, NH in a solo and unsupported Sea Kayak. Kayaking 20 miles, Haugevik finished at the site of where he got married 10 years prior, and completed a line he has been looking at on the map for 18 years. Now, it’s in the books.

Start Point: Alton Bay, New Hampshire

End Point: Church Landing - Meredith, New Hampshire

Distance: 20 miles

Mode of Travel: Sea Kayak

Level of Support: None - Solo Self Supported

Date of Completion: 8/31/2024

Trip Report: “Left Alton Bay just after sunrise to a very flat bay. Light fog with limited visibility. After the first hour the breeze picked up hitting at a nice angle but giving a slight push. The sun burned off the fog, but clouds soon pushed in. The course carved in and out of open water with 1-2 foot chop and flat water coves. After passing Weirs Beach boat traffic began to throw some inconsistent chop making the last five miles a bit slower, but a lot of fun. At 10:45 AM I touched Church Landing in Meredith Bay, the same place I got married 10 years ago.” - Jake Haugevik

Additional Details: During the kayak Haugevik fixed a broken foot pedal by jamming a water bottle into the track on a dock along the route.

Haugevik was dropped at his start location by his wife, Meg, and met back up with his family for lunch in Meredith after completing the point to point.
