Fitness Station #6. Shelter Island School District: Fiske Field

Fitness Station #6 is up at Fiske Field in Shelter Island, NY. Reminiscent of our very first fitness station, “The Mike Semkus Memorial” located behind Pierson High School, we partnered up with Shelter Island School District for station #6 to bring some outdoor fitness to the island. This fitness station helps to promote fitness as a positive mental health outlet for the youth community of Shelter Island, and provides a specific space to practice outdoor functional fitness.

We were first approached with the idea of doing a fitness station on Shelter Island by local, Charlie Binder. Charlie is a strength coach, who also runs many youth fitness programs on the island. Wanting to come up with a spot for this station that would have the most positive impact on the community, Charlie suggested Fiske Field as the perfect location. Moving forward with the plans, Charlie played a pivotal role in getting the fitness station passed through the Shelter Island School Board.

Due to the nature of this station having to meet school code, we were exited to dust off the original plans from the “Mike Semkus Memorial” fitness station, and create a new station that pays homage to our humble beginnings. Complete with a timber border provided by RBS, clean wood chips provided by Southampton Excavation, and a beautifully cut area by the guys at Binder Pools, Fitness Station #6 looks to be one of our best yet.
