RAISING AWARENESS: Cross Country Bicycle Tour
San Diego, CA to Sag Harbor, NY
June 1 – July 7, 2018
Bandits Payton Dwight and Drew Harvey completed a cross country bicycle trip from San Diego, CA to Sag Harbor, NY. The trip took a total of 37 days and covered nearly 3,300 miles. This tour was launched to Raise Awareness for the opioid epidemic plaguing this country, and to complete a monstrous physical feet in honor of two great friends, Mike Semkus and Anthony Grasso, who passed away from opioid overdoses in 2016 and 2017. Over the course of the trip, 6,700 dollars was raised, half of which was donated to the Anthony Grasso foundation, for the construction of the Anthony Grasso Memorial. This memorial serves as a safe space for students, who are struggling and need support from their peers, at the University of San Diego. The other half of the proceeds were used to build the Mike Semkus Memorial Workout Station, an outdoor fitness area behind Sag Harbor High School in order to promote a healthy and fit lifestyle for the youth community.
