DPB Fitness Station #4. Shove House: Omak, Washington
Completed June 2, 2022
Fitness Station #4 is up at the Shove House, located in Omak, Washington. For this station we partnered up with Okanogan Behavioral Health Care (OBHC) and their team at the Shove House.
“OBHC is a 501(c)3 Private Not for Profit Corporation providing behavioral health care services to a diverse population of about 43,000 people. We serve all Okanogan County residents, regardless of race, color, national origin, gender, disability, religion, creed, age, or sexual orientation.” - Okanogan Behavioral Health Care
On the grounds of OBHC there exists a very special program known as the Shove House. “The Shove House provides a cooperative, clean, and sober living environment, enabling residents to address the mental health and/or substance use disorder challenges that have led to homelessness.” - Okanogan Behavioral Health Care
After first bicycling through the town of Omak, WA on our “Ride for Recovery” bicycle tour across the northern United States, we later learned of the great work being done by OBHC and the Shove House through our research, and by speaking with locals who were familiar with the area. After working closely with the staff of OBHC and Shove House we were able to complete this Dawgpatch Fitness Station, that serves those residing at Shove House and the staff community of OBHC. This Fitness Station is an outdoor workout area that promotes health and fitness, and provides a positive outlet for those in mental health and substance abuse recovery.
