Orient Point to Montauk Point

An Orient Point to Montauk Point stand up paddle has been completed by Bandits Nico McMahon and Drew Harvey. The locals call it the “Orient Point Express,” 25 deep water miles from Long Island’s Orient Point across the twin fork gap to Montauk Point lighthouse. Heading south east from Orient Point the duo passed north of Gardiner’s Island into the deep open waters of the Block Island Sound, paddling over depths of up to 95 feet. On this particular day the crossing was completed in a dead calm sea with a heavy fog cover. Navigating the waters with a lone support boat maned by just a Captain with a compass the venture took nearly 5 hours to complete.
