Silverbrook Creek to Stony Brook ELIH ROW x OC1


On August 12, 2024 Kai Stürmann and Jeremy Grosvenor pair up for a Row x Oc-1 crossing of the Peconic Bays (not including Gardiners Bay) going from Silverbrook Creek -> Reeves Bay -> Flanders Bay -> -Great Peconic Bay -> Little Peconic Bay -> Southold Bay -> Shelter Island Sound / North Race to finish at Greenport’s Eastern Long Island Hospital.

Point to Point: (Start) Silverbrook Creek, 83 Reeves Bay Trail to Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital, 201 Manor Place, Greenport (End)

Mode of Travel: Single sliding seat rowing shell (Kai Sturmann). OC-1 (Jeremy Grosvenor).

Distance: 19.62 NM = 22.58 miles

Nature of Completion - Escorted from eastern end of Great Peconic Bay to destination by Scott Erath (IG @scotterath) in Grady White power boat. No gear / water / nutrition taken from escort.

Trip Report - 0630 sunrise departure in light NW winds. Course steered by compass and line of sight. Rowing and OC-1 great partner vessels - similar in speed and OC-1 is facing in direction of travel. Great conversation, great observations. Short stop on the southern end of Nassau Point, the convenient 'almost half-way' mark. Water/bananas/ PBJs. 5-10K North headwind around HogNeck and up Southold Bay. East along the North shore of Shelter Island and then through the breakwater into Sterling Harbor. All of the Peconics - so much seen. SOOooooo much more to see.
