Trip Report: Started on the rocks at Orient Point at 5:44 AM. Weather was pleasant, with temps rising to the mid 70's throughout the day. Made my way into Greenport and hopped on the North Ferry to Shelter Island. The route I chose here wasn't the most direct, but it's super scenic and also crosses Shelter Island from the northernmost point to the southernmost. These were some great miles. Rode the South Ferry into North Haven and ran through Sag Harbor. The section from outside Sag Harbor to East Hampton was challenging and monotonous, but spirits were high coming into Further Ln. in East Hampton. Stopped again in Amagansett to top off on fuel/water. The section between Amagansett and the start of Old Montauk Highway is a long stretch of hot and pan flat asphalt - tedious. From here, I took Old Montauk Highway - really scenic, and the breeze from the Ocean felt great. I passed through town in Montauk then took the trails at Shadmoor to Ditch Plains and back up to Rt. 27. Here, I took the fork in the road at Deep Hollow Ranch to continue on Old Montauk Highway and into Camp Hero. I wanted to finish this run on the last miles of the Paumanok Path - the view of the lighthouse you get cresting into the park from this trail is unreal. Ended by traversing the rocks at Montauk Point up to the lighthouse. Total elapsed time to finish this route was 12:25:17.
