Trip Report: “Montauk is one of many beloved surf destinations for me, and many others, here on Long Island. As an individual who has, and continues to struggle with sadness and anger, despite my overt optimism and joyful nature, I find that giving myself opportunities to push my mind and body to its breaking point, while having every reason to give up or simply cut it short, acts as a reminder to myself that I have what it takes to overcome. I call this the PEACE PADDLE. I dedicate this paddle to the war stricken lands in Israel and Palestine. I dedicate this paddle to the 3 young surfers who were recently brutally murdered in Baja California while camping along the beach in search of waves. My heart reaches out to all of the friends and family of those who have died and those who have been deeply affected by these tragedies. The pain and fear I endured over the 29 miles is nothing in comparison, and I only hope that it can act as a tribute to anyone that is struggling in life. You can too endure. Even if only for 9 hours- sometimes that’s all that matters.” - Much love, Nico (Nicholas McMahon)

Additional Notes: This paddle was completed West to East across Sag Harbor Bay, Gardiners Bay, Napeague Bay, Fort Pond Bay, across Washington Shoal and finished on the North side of Montauk Point Lighthouse.
